FPV Drone PCB Design
FPV aircraft place flight control, video and high-current propulsion electronics close together. A compact design must manage noise, heat, access and mechanical fit while supporting the chosen firmware and peripherals.
Plan the stack first
Model the mounting pattern, board thickness, component heights, USB access, wire exits and connector clearance. Account for fasteners and vibration mounts. An electrically valid board can still be impossible to service inside the frame.
Keep the functions clear
The flight controller sends commands; ESCs switch motor power. An all-in-one board combines these functions, which increases the importance of return paths, heat flow and sensor placement. Draw the current loops before routing, including the battery, switching stage and decoupling network.
Review firmware compatibility
Verify current supported MCU and sensor choices, output resources and target requirements. Preserve a pin-resource record alongside the schematic. A firmware target name alone does not validate a newly designed board.
Build an integration checklist
- Receiver and video interfaces have correct supply and signaling levels.
- ESC connector pinouts match both boards.
- High-current wiring does not obstruct sensor mounting or controls.
- Programming and test access remain usable after assembly.
- Noise and temperature are measured in representative configurations.
Continue with component selection and assembly planning.
