Fixed-Wing and VTOL Drone PCBs
Fixed-wing and VTOL aircraft introduce actuator and power requirements that differ from a simple quadcopter. Servos, airspeed sensing and transition between flight modes need to be captured before the controller schematic is fixed.
Separate servo power from logic
Document which supply feeds the servo rail, the load transients and the return path. Avoid assuming that a flight-controller output connector provides power simply because it carries a signal. Check the selected hardware pinout.
Allocate outputs and inputs
Map every motor, control surface and peripheral. Review output timing, signal levels and firmware resource limits. Leave accessible test points for power and critical communication paths.
Examine transition conditions
For a VTOL design, consider operating states separately: ground idle, vertical lift, transition and forward flight. Capture their electrical loads and switching events. A steady cruise budget does not cover the entire mission.
Verify at system level
Document wiring, connector retention, mechanical clearance and recovery behavior after a supply disturbance. Validate the assembled board and its aircraft integration against explicit requirements rather than an assumed universal checklist.
Continue with multirotor electronics, component selection and assembly planning.
